ULEZ Expansion 2023

To help improve air quality for everyone's health, the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is expanding from 29 August 2023 across all London boroughs.

If you drive a vehicle that doesn't meet the emissions standards inside the expanded ULEZ, you could face a daily charge of £12.50. This includes residents of the ULEZ. However, you don't need to pay the ULEZ charge if you are parked inside the zone and don't drive.

Penalty charge: £160 (reduced to £80 if paid within 14 days)

To see if your vehicle meets the ULEZ emission standards, use the TFL vehicle checker.

Minimum emission standards for cars:

Petrol cars that meet the ULEZ standards are generally those first registered with the DVLA after 2005, although cars that meet the standards have been available since 2001

Diesel cars that meet the standards are generally those first registered with the DVLA after September 2015.

Minimum emission standards for vans:

Petrol: Euro 4 (NOx)

Diesel: Euro 6 (NOx and PM)

If you own a vehicle that will be effected by these charges in August, I strongly suggest you look at replacing it now. This is bound to have a severe impact on the value come implementation, and if you are looking at a new vehicle, lead times can be 9-12 months at present with some exceptions.
